Timing: built around the school calendar
The great majority of installations happen outside term time. Half term, Easter, and summer are the natural windows, and scheduling around them is the default approach rather than something that needs to be specially requested. Every school we’ve worked with so far has had its installation completed during a holiday period.
That said, the school’s own preference matters. If a particular timing works better for a site’s specific circumstances, we can integrate this into the planning process rather than assuming holidays are the only option.
What’s actually happening during installation
The work itself is roof-based for the most part – panel mounting, cabling, and inverter installation – with a limited amount of ground-level activity for scaffolding access and electrical connection into the school’s system. Because most of it happens above the building rather than within it, the physical footprint on the ground is smaller than people often picture.
Full turnkey installation follows the same high standards as any commercial project: RAMS, testing certificates, and HSE logs are all provided as a matter of course, so there’s a clear paper trail of exactly what’s been done and to what standard.
Access and safeguarding
Anyone working on-site is DBS-checked, as standard practice for any contractor working around children. Installers receive a safeguarding briefing before work begins, and every team completes a site induction with the school on arrival, covering site-specific access rules, restricted areas, and anything particular to that school’s setup. It’s the same level of care any school would expect from a contractor on its premises, applied consistently across every project.
What the school needs to manage
In practice, very little. UrbanVolt manages the installation team, the scheduling, and the safety documentation throughout. The school’s role is mostly about confirming timing and access points in advance. After that, the project runs largely without needing day-to-day input from school staff.
