Bikeworld

Long-time UrbanVolt client Bikeworld has availed of both Light as a Service and Solar as a Service. UrbanVolt has transformed their Dublin store into a brighter and more energy efficient space for no money down.

Light as a Service

Les Griffin

“The lighting in our facility was poor. We had to do something about it but we didn’t want to spend our money on an LED upgrade as our money is better invested in expanding our range of motorbikes for our clients or hiring new staff. UrbanVolt took care of everything and their project has had a huge impact. Even the colours of the motorbikes are better which was another bonus we weren’t anticipating.”

The Opportunity

Bikeworld, situated in their recognisable glass-front showroom on the Long Mile Road, Dublin, are the Irish supplier of Kawasaki motorbikes. They also offer a huge range of biking apparel and accessories.

Some areas of the showroom were dark and it was costing the company a considerable sum to run the old high-wattage fluorescents. The window lights in particular were proving a high draw on electricity as they were lit at night in order to showcase the bikes.

The Solution

Using UrbanVolt’s zero capex Light as a Service, Bikeworld was retrofitted with almost 400 fittings across the site, including the public showrooms, storage areas, back of house, and the offices. The UrbanVolt team installed the fittings outside of opening hours to avoid disruption to day to day operations.

Light levels have dramatically improved and energy consumption has plummeted. The new lighting highlights the quality of the products on sale, and Bikeworld has reduced their lighting bill without any capital expenditure.

Solar as a Service

The next step on Bikeworld’s sustainability journey was to generate their own clean energy using UrbanVolt’s Solar as a Service. At absolutely no cost to Bikeworld, UrbanVolt installed a solar array at their site.

Bikeworld will pay UrbanVolt for the energy generated by their new solar array at a fixed cost of €0.10c/kWh - a 50% reduction on what they were previously paying. They will only pay for the energy they consume.

By generating their own clean energy, Bikeworld will save 37.5 tonnes of CO2 annually, equivalent to taking 8 cars off the road.
